Could A Guy Who Has Never Done Boxing Beat A Guy Who Has Been Boxing For 8 Years+?

Im younger, faster, stronger than this guy. Obviously i’ll do boxing training and stuff for a few months first. But the guy challenged me to 3 rounds in a boxing match with a referee and everything. To put 5k of my cash and 5k of his and winner takes all. Now he’s been doing boxing for 8 years he says at some gym. I’ve never really done it other than casually here and there. But he’s in his 40′s im in early twenties. I think i can take this guy…i’ll train hard too..but what do boxing experts think?
I’m not gonna do it if i think i’ll get beat or lose im considering it though cos i don’t like this guy.

Unless this guy is not much good or is 50 pounds lighter or if you are lucky has been trained with the incorrect fundamentals of boxing you are biting off more than you can chew. Boxing is a learned skill that with the correct training(something that cannot be learned overnight) the trained boxer has a HUGE advantage over some one that has just tried to learn in a coupe of weeks.
With that being said you need to find a knowledgeable boxing trainer:(either a former boxer that fully understands the basics of the sport-ie: How everything in boxing/power/leverage and momentum comes from or starts out from your feet/base with the combination of hip and shoulder rotation power coming out with the snap of the wrist, like with a jab leverage and power comes off the back foot and the power comes by pushing your body weight forward. the final snap is kind of like a bull whip effect if thrown correctly.

  2. Paul says:

    keep your guard up
work your jab and keep moving
let him come to you then work your jab everything comes from your jab if you get in trouble clinch until the ref says break
the winner will be the person who wants it the most]
dont listen to the bums on here who have never been in a ring you can win m8

There are too many variables to make a decision.
Perhaps the best you could do is have an experienced trainer:
    1. watch the other guy in several fights
    2. train you until he thinks you could win.

Younger, faster, stronger, doesn’t mean better, even after a couple months I would still suggest using a bat.

  5. Jose says:

for someone that is putting out 5k, that must mean he is confident too. You better hope you catch him good and he can’t take a punch.

It could happen … like once in a millenium, so I wouldn’t count on it.

Your gonna get whooped on and lose your money.
I picture you maybe backing him up at first.. But it won’t be because your doing anything good, because he is luring you.. He will pop you here and there, leaving you off balance so you can’t hit him flush…
Might even toy with you just for laughs…
The way you are talking shows your fighting style… You underestimate him.. Youll come out trying to blitz him cause you have athe advantage… You think you can just step in the ring and be a champ… Lol naw it ain’t like that..
He has the advantage cause he has the experience…
Lmao you need to find a clever way to punk out, FACT!
Tell him your doing Mma and boxing is weak… That in a street fight you would blah blah blah….
I’m being sarcastic but I am trying to help you out of getting embarrassed…

LOL… I think you’re gonna get stomped on dude. If your entire strategy boils down to “I’m younger and stronger” your going to lose and lose large. Now… if you were talking about an anything goes street fight… maybe. But with rules and a ref and 8 years experience… you’re gonna lose.
You still don’t get it do you. Let’s say you challenged me to a guitar playing contest. I have 8 years experience. You just noodle around every once in a while. I go out an play weddings, community events, the local bars and concert halls… and you strum a couple cowboy chords sitting in front of the tv now and again. You say “I’m really going to practice!”. Well.. depending on how talented you are it could take a couple years to many years to come up to my speed. Especially if I’m already pretty good. And while you’re training I’m not sitting around eating bon bons. I’m training too. So… what do you think is going to happen? You let your mouth write a check your a** can’t cash. It will, however, be excellent life experience for you.
“the winner will be the person who wants it the most”
Isn’t that cute. Somebody saw “Rocky”. So if I “want it bad enough” I can take down Bruce Lee can I? Who knew?

Boxing isn’t just the ability to punch.
it’s a mixture of being extremely fit, having a good punch, being tactically aware, patience, knowledge, footwork, great reactions, stamina and being able to take a sucker punch.
I’m not saying that you don’t have all of those abilities, but you writing off your opponent so quickly because he is 40 is foolish.
If this dude has been fighting for 8 years, he’ll obviously know to let you wear yourself down and then capitalise on when you’re tired and that you probably won’t be able to hold his punches.
I think you’ll need to get lucky to win this in the first 30 seconds to stand any chance.
Probably better to get more time to find out just how physical boxing and constantly throwing punches is. Either that or train every day for the next 3 months. Or bow out gracefully?
