  5. Lil D says:

Market economies are still the way to go. They just need more regulation and guidance to keep the outcomes within the range that we want as a society.

We first have to try capitalism

  7. Cricket says:

Yeah, because it worked out so well for Soviet Union and Nazi Germany

  8. kelby767 says:

To paraphrase – Capitalism is a terrible economic system. Unfortunately, there is none better.

  9. nolimit5 says:

It’s going to take a lot more then just a 9% unemployment rate for people to move on from capitalism.

  10. Libertar says:

Median American income: $55,000 a year.
Median world income: $12,000 a year.

  11. Liddel says:

Yeah, let’s choose a system that does not reward innovation or productivity.
Oddly enough, if we had that system, you wouldn’t be sitting in front of a computer asking questions on a site that wouldn’t exist.

  12. jaker says:

No, because there would be no source of the money to pay those salaries. Where do you think it is going to come from?

  13. ? says:

it does for at least 80% of families, we could just jail the 20% that’s left or make them slaves or even turn them into soilent-green.

  14. Grand Theft Pants™ the 12th says:

Are you saying that markets have not increased the standard of living drastically over the past few decades and centuries?
Get real. The Free Market is the only way that we can really get rid of poverty.

  15. Ricky says:

And exactly what system would that be? We have the 3rd largest population in the world, along with one of the highest GDPs per capita.
Obviously we aren’t perfect, but you can’t say with a straight face that socialism can do better.

  16. Debunkin says:

Capitalism is good. The Republican version of capitalism is bad.

  17. Hob says:

I agree. Lets put some all-wise, all-powerful, all-knowing angels in charge of the economy. You get the angels. I’ll draw up the plan.

  18. Always Right Never Wrong says:

it is difficult to expect to receive a decent living wage if you are NOT willing to WORK at and EARN a decent living wage
A decent living wage is NOT an ” entitlement ” for lazy & shiftless wlfare rats who have NO desire to work

  19. Dark Night says:

We don’t know if capitalism can do this because we don’t have a capitalist system.

  20. Unknown says:

The system we currently live under is NOT capitalism! It is corporatism! The only thing that will work is free market capitalism. Have you ever seen a successful communist or socialist country?

  21. McNamara says:

It can. It just hasn’t been tried. Why? Because power-hungry statists would be locked out of power if capitalism shows people that they don’t need government to provide for themselves.

  22. Alyssa Tereshkova ★ says:

    Sounds reasonable enough to me.

  23. Vulcan says:

    Sounds pretty reasonable to me….
Capitalism – Three guys get stinking rich – and a million people starve to pay for it.
No wonder the republicans love it so much. They hate America.

  24. Seth says:

Name another system that can. The only reason capitalism can’t is because Unions have driven the cost of living up to the point where no company, big or small, can afford to pay what liberals consider a living-wage. That is not the fault of capitalism. That is the fault of liberal union thugs.
You think socialism can do that? Taking money from the people and giving it to other people, printing money to pay off debt, adding debt and increasing the deficit to satisfy the gov’t's spending addiction will not produce your so called living wage.
If you truly believe that socialism or getting rid of “corporations” will solve America’s problems, you have a child’s mind. Grow up and realize that the actions of the federal government have diminished the value of the dollar, and will continue to send America into a spiraling downfall, until something is done about it. That something, is not socialism.

  25. Daniel says:

It can and it should but they found out about thirty years that they can make larger profits easier by buying politicians and parties and having the laws written so they don’t have to compete as hard.

  26. David A says:

Your presumption is wrong on its face. Capitalism does provide decent living wage jobs for families. No other system in the world currently being used or ever used has provide as much wealth for such a large number of people.
The wealth of the United States where our “poor” live like kings compared to the poor of the rest of the world is directly attributed to capitalism.
Not only does capitalism work, it works better than anything ever tried.

  27. chuck_ju says:

No. Try working for a living.
The system is fine. Washington DC with all of their regs and taxes on businesses is the broken part.
    Socialist that one.

  28. Liberal Democrat says:

Yes we should try Communism ASAP
